Gooooood Morning Potty People!
Have we got a BIG week ahead…
We’ve got Thanksgiving… followed by Black Friday… followed by Small Business Saturday… and the cherry on top Cyber Monday!
This is truly our busiest week of the year… and we are not alone
You see… as we all wake up to recover from our food comas
…There is one industry that is hard at work
In fact, its their busiest day of the year… we are talking about Plumbers
For this Week’s Main Story, we discuss the day after Thanksgiving… commonly referred to by Plumbers as… Brown Friday!
While we can all attest to partaking in the American tradition of overeating…
I mean there is a literal dish called “Stuffing”... its excessive
Not only that… but many of you will be hosting family, friends or ex-lovers who in most probability will be using your restroom at some point in the festivities…
So as you might expect…
So as you might expect… Big gatherings, meal preparation and kitchen cleanup will overload sinks, disposals, toilets and sewers, creating headaches for families and lots of work for plumbers.
There is a 50% increase in call volume… and a 21% uptick in business over any other four-day weekend period.
It's all due to big holiday meal preparation and house guests. "Extra guests mean more flushes, showers, dish washing and laundry, increasing the likelihood of a plumbing or drain failure," said Paul Abrams, a local plumber.
"It's baked into the holiday weekend; we know exactly what will happen."
You see… Brown Friday is slightly misleading
Although some of the calls are Potty related, most of the calls are related to items that shouldn't be disposed of down your kitchen sink
If you have ever hosted a Thanksgiving Meal, you can attest to the Jackson Pollock mishmash of trimmings, disregarded vegetables viewed as unworthy of this years meal… all sitting in your kitchen sink.
We all just wash these scraps down the drain… cleaning it all up as though it was a crime scene
Well, to save you and the busy Plumbers some trouble, we want to give you our tips to avoid plumbing and drain trouble over Thanksgiving Weekend:
- Never pour grease, turkey drippings or cooking oil down drains. They solidify in pipes and choke drains.
- Don't put potato peels, poultry skins, bones, rice or pasta down the garbage disposal. Disposals can handle small quantities of scraps, but most food should go into the trash can or compost pile.
- Make sure the disposal is running when you add food scraps.
- Don't flush wet wipes down toilets. Most won't dissolve and may clog pipes.
- Place plungers in guest bathrooms to save guests the embarrassment of asking for one.
- Spread out showers and laundry so pipes have time to drain
To all of you hosting this Holiday season… we are praying for you!
Let's Flush It Up with this week’s Potty Picks!
As some of you might know, this past weekend we celebrated World Toilet Day on November 19th!
And while we enjoy having some fun with it, the holiday itself is for a fantastic cause.
World Toilet Day is an official United Nations international observance day to inspire action to tackle the global sanitation crisis.
Today, 3.6 billion people are still living with poor quality toilets that ruin their health and pollute their environment.
Inadequate sanitation systems spread human waste into rivers, lakes and soil, contaminating the water resources under our feet.
Everyone must have access to a toilet connected to a sanitation system that effectively removes and treats human waste.
The UN in partnership with Bill Gates and Samsung are looking to tackle this issue, by creating new toilets that turn waste into energy that can be used to power homes
So… to really hammer home the point we present to you… our video of the week… Louie the Singing Toilet.
While we would love to just have that toilet song on repeat for 5 songs, we couldn't do that to you- The Potty People!
Well, as we said earlier, the family is coming over… yay?
Looking for some fantastic background music for the Holidays… look no further than our Potty Picks playlist!
Each week, we add five new songs to an ongoing playlist, perfect for literally any occasion! Just hit play!
This week, we feature music from:
Boy, oh Boy have we got a good one for you this week!
This Week’s Bathroom Moment of the Week takes us to Mexico City, Mexico
Our story begins with a harrowing situation, involving a man holding a gun who robbed an entire bus of people including 8 people's cell phones
It was later reported that the gun was fake…
The robber left the bus quickly, and was captured by surveillance cameras showing the man walking down the street, holding his pants, and clenching his butt.
Authorities were able to follow the man’s movements to the Las Americas shopping center in Metepec, Mexico State.
They found him sitting on the toilet, with his pants down, and a perplexed look on his face.
While we typically agree with the idea that if you gotta go, you gotta go.
But maybe, we would add the slight exception that if you’re fleeing the scene of a crime, you may want to consider holding it in.

"We must find the time to stop and thank the people who make a difference in our lives.”
John F. Kennedy
