Welcome to another fantastic episode of “Potty Time with POTTYMINTS!” (…if we do say so ourselves)
As you may or may not know, we here at POTTYMINTS work out of West Orange, New Jersey but… we are born and raised New Yorkers!
While we don’t have obnoxious over-the-top Italian accents like Joe Pesci… We have to admit, we do love our pizza!
New Yorkers have often looked on in complete bewilderment over the troths of tourists flocking into a S’barro’s Pizza in Times Square…
REALLY?! You really came all the way to New York City… to eat a slice you could have ordered at “Terminal 8” of your local airport?!?
Fun Fact: The Average American eats 40 Pizza Pies a Year!
However, for this week’s story of the week, we travel to the birthplace of the “Pizza Margherita” Rome!
Tradition holds the classic "Pizza Margherita" was created by Raffaele Esposito on June 11, 1889 to honor the queen consort, Margherita of Savoy, during her visit to Naples with King Umberto I.
He used tomatoes, mozzarella and basil leaves to represent the colors of the flag of a just united Italy - red, white and green.
Now in 2021… Esposito might be turning over in his grave due to the newest Pizzeria to open up in Rome… "Mr. Go Pizza" a new vending machine which slides out freshly cooked pizzas in just three minutes.
Customers can choose from 4 different types of Pizza, and the “Mr. Go Pizza” machine will make it fresh, using flower, yeast and water to create fresh dough for every order, apply sauce and toppings… all in under 3 three minutes!
But the real test is… What do the Romans think?
"I wouldn't even think of eating a pizza made by a machine," said Giovanni Campana.
"Terrible. Pizza really needs to be eaten hot, immediately. This doesn't work for me," a passer by said.
"It's OK but it's not pizza," was her verdict.
Funny enough… “It’s Ok but it’s not Pizza” is also the new tagline for DiGiorno Pizza
